Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Greatest Thunder Ever?
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been the top scorer this season. He is a strong MVP candidate. Alexander is one of the most talented scorers in the league today, using his footwork and strength to create shots. With the Thunder being the best team in the league, it could lead to SGA winning a title. This could make him the greatest Thunder ever. Past players failed to achieve that.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has made a strong case for the MVP award this year. He has led the Thunder to the best record, tying the Cavaliers with 37 wins and 7 losses. He also leads the league's best offense, as he could end up being the scoring champ this year. Shai is great at attacking the basket and controlling his rhythm. He has great footwork, finessing his way to the basket. SGA is the league's top player, as he will make another All-NBA and All-Star appearance. This season has been his to dominate so far, being the best player of the 2024-25 season.
Tonight, after winning Player of the Month, Shai scored a career-high 54 points. Along with having 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The MVP candidate was having an all-time performance doing what he does best. He was able to use his footwork to create separation from the defenders. Also, using his body and strength to finish strong against the opposing players. Having quality mid-range shots and being able to control his speed and pace makes him tough. With his ability to use his strength and footwork, he has been able to get the foul troubles needed to win. Ending the night with 18 free throws. SGA has had eight forty-point games this season, further pushing his MVP case.
The Thunder have excelled at moving the ball this season. SGA has improved his playmaking ability. He can draw in defenders. This opens a three-point shooter or a cut to the basket. Drive and kicks is something important for SGA as he can draw defenders in and then kick out to an open player. It is his gravity that demands the defenders to close out on him which then leads to a good look for his teammates. SGA is always quick to learn which has put confidence in the Oklahoma front office. He has worked on his game. Now, he may win MVP and become the greatest Thunder ever!
It may seem blasphemous. But, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could be the best Thunder player ever. Kevin Durant's run in Oklahoma City was incredible. He was the most dominating player in 2014, winning the MVP Award. Or, during 2016-19, Russell Westbrook had a crazy few seasons. He was getting triple-doubles every night. But the fact is Russ never led the Thunder to the success that SGA had led them to in the past two seasons. Leading the team to back-to-back first seed seasons. Even being able to lead Oklahoma past the first round. If he wins the discussion will change.
To pass Kevin Durant, it will be tough but not impossible, as KD made that franchise. He was able to make the new city exciting and defined the 10 years with magic. Though it ended in tragedy, his status as the greatest player to ever play there is undeniable. The best way for SGA to pass Kevin will be to win a title. There is no way around it, as he achieved everything in Oklahoma. It is possible, as the Thunder have the deepest roster in the NBA. SGA could earn himself an MVP award, being the third franchise player to do so. This season could be career defining for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been one of the best players in the league this year. Making a strong argument for the MVP award and leading the Thunder to the best record in the league. So far into his career, SGA has made a few All-Star and All-NBA appearances, making him one of the stars of today. 2025 has been one of his best years as he leads the league in scoring. The Thunder could win their first title with the current roster. That would make him greater than Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. It would also make him the greatest Thunder of all time!
