Washington Wizards Going Upwards!
Will Dawkins, since taking over the Washington Wizards, has been incredible. The way he has been able to move on from contracts, getting young players and expiring deals, has been great. The Wizards have seven young players under the age of 21 looking to build a culture similar to Oklahoma.
The Washington Wizards had a fantastic offseason. Their standout draft impressed the media and earned a lot of praise. Adding scoring to their roster and continuing on their rebuild. General Manager Will Dawkins has been great since he began. He skillfully moved away from the Bradley Beal deal. The draft history includes players such as Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, and Bilal Coulibaly. Each has positively impacted the Wizards' future. His return from Kyle Kuzma was great as It helped AJ Johnson, a young player, make an impact last season. Washington has brought in key veterans. They can greatly help the team make a jump to the play-in this season. They might just make the playoffs due to the Celtics and Pacers have gotten weaker, so it’s not surprising. And the recent move for Cam Whitmore was awesome, as it gives him the chance to play on a team with more opportunities. Washington could be one of the most impressive teams next season with how it is shaping up.
Cam Whitmore was traded to the Washington Wizards this off-season. Which is a low-risk, high-reward type deal, as they only gave up two second-round picks. Cam is a young player. Last season, he struggled to find playing time on the court. He excelled in the G League which made this unexpected. But with how deep Houston is after the Kevin Durant trade, it only made sense for Cam to find another team. Washington is the ideal situation, as they have minutes open and veterans who could be a huge help.

The veteran addition this offseason has been spot on: CJ McCollum. He’s a great scorer and will bring scoring power off the bench as he can help lift the Wizards' level of play. CJ is a declining player but someone who can still play at a high level and even take over games when needed. Khris Middleton has dealt with injuries since winning a championship and has declined. But he will be a good starting forward who can bring the championship experience to the team. Kelly Olynk is a solid big man who is a good veteran for Alex Sarr. Marcus Smart, a former Defensive Player of the Year, is a great locker room presence. He also helped establish a strong defensive culture for the Wizards. Washington is a great fit for veterans seeking to raise their value and aid a promising young group.
Washington is one of the deepest teams in the league with many great young players. With many young players being able to shine in their roles. Will Dawkins has been with the Oklahoma City Thunder for more than 10 years. Now, he wants to build his own version of that success with the Wizards. They have seven young guys on the team as their core and look to build the team through the NBA draft. Now, the hope is that players like Bub Carrington, Alex Sarr, and Bilal Coulibaly will step up. Their growth could help the team make a post-season run this year.
The Wizards now have seven players age-21 or younger in their rotation:
Alex Sarr
Bilal Coulibaly
Tre Johnson
Cam Whitmore
AJ Johnson
Bub Carrington
Kyshawn GeorgeWashington’s front office quickly put together a promising core, and they hope to draft an elite prospect in 2026.

The Eastern Conference is wide open, so teams like the Washington Wizards might reach the play-in tournament. Will Dawkins and company have done a good job drafting creating a young team with good set of veterans. The Wizards have a bright future as they continue to build through the drafts. This off-season has been a big win for the organization. They gained young players and valuable draft assets. The only way for Washington is up and they have shown through the moves they made.
