What is Troy Weaver doing?!
The Pistons and Washington Wizards made one of the most boring trades in this tradeline. The trade was Marvin Bagley III and Isaiah Livers for future draft considerations. In exchange for Mike Muscala and Danilo Gallinari. It seems like the Pistons made the move to bring in more veterans on the bench, and the Wizards got younger. Though it feels like this was an unnecessary move by Troy Weavers, And it seems like this deal fell into the hands of the Wizards, who have nothing to lose with this trade.
On the Pistons side of things, this trade makes zero sense. It seems like an absolutely desperate move to save the locker room. Troy Weavers has had a disaster season where the Pistons have become a laughing stock. No team wants to lose to such a horse-shit team. The franchise wants better veterans. That's why they traded for Gallinari, who has a lot of playoff experience. He played a key role in the careers of Trae Young and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Now, the Pistons are hoping that Gallo can be a good vet around Cade Cunningham. Mike Muscala was also part of the deal, and he was big during the Oklahoma City Thunder rebuild. Troy Weavers hopes these veterans can turn around the franchise. He wants them to create a winning culture.
The Washington Wizards won this trade. The franchise traded for the young 24-year-old and gave up their two aging veterans. Bagley, who has not seen the floor playing with Detroit, has been thriving the past three games. This trade is low-risk with a high reward. If Bagley and Liver don't pan out, the Wizards won't lose sleep. But if they do, then that's an asset in the future. Meanwhile, for the Pistons, it seems like a move that won't benefit the franchise.
Troy Weavers should be on the hot seat for having such a shitty season. The Pistons are one of the most brutal teams to watch this season. It is embarrassing considering everyone had them making the playoffs. They are one of the worst young teams in the league, and it does not help that they have one of the highest-paid coaches. I don't see this as a trade-saving face for the Pistons. Instead, I see it helping the Wizards fast-forward their rebuilding process. Troy Weavers made a dumb trade, which has me wondering if he knows what he is doing as the GM.
