Timberwolves Front Court!
Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle have helped Minnesota win games. The hope is that Minnesota avoids making the play-in, earning a matchup that they do not want. The West has been a dogfight, and the frontcourt duo has been swinging.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are on a winning streak. They've won eight games. This success is thanks to their two frontcourt players, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert. Both players have played great defense, making it hard to score at the basket. Randle struggled at first this season. But since returning from injury, he has guided Minnesota to 13 wins. Also led the organization to the 9th-best defense in the league. And with the West shaping up, Minnesota looks to match up well against other teams in the postseason. The two frontcourt players are key for them to make a run this postseason.
Julius Randle has struggled to find himself this season. The Wolves began the season with disappointing results. It seemed they lost the trade when star player Karl-Anthony Towns went to New York. As the season ends, Randle has led the team to 13 wins and a winning streak. He has found his role on the team. His style of play opens up the offense for franchise player Anthony Edwards. Randle plays with great physicality, which helps him finish strong at the basket. He also draws attention from defenders, allowing him to make kick-out passes. Julius can drive to the basket by using his ability to handle the ball and is great at being a good post player. Being a component three-point shooter also demands attention from defenders. Randle has been a star-level player in the regular season, but his playoffs have been shaky.
In the playoffs, Julius Randle has struggled for the past few seasons. This has pushed the Knicks to trade away the player who once helped them shine. Due to the lack of playoff success, Jalen Brunson became the first option for the team. The last time he was in the playoffs, he averaged 16 points per game. His shooting was 37 percent. In the regular season, he averaged 25 points and shot 45 percent. That's a nine-point drop. The Wolves face a scary thought. They hope Julius can turn things around and become a strong second option in the playoffs.
The best defensive big for the past decade has been Rudy Gobert, who won his fourth Defensive Player of the Year. Rudy is a talented rim protector who can alter players' shots when driving to the rim. Averaging 1.5 blocks per game. Rudy is a skilled help defender and perimeter defender. He helped Minnesota achieve a 9th place ranking in defensive rating. Gobert is also 9th among block leaders. But the concern for the big man is his offensive skills have been lacking.
Rudy Gobert has been a black hole on the offensive end. He sucks at creating his shots, which makes it tough for the Timberwolves to generate points. Gobert has to have the ball handed to him. Rudy is good at setting screens for Anthony Edwards as he opens up the floor for the guard. Along with setting off-ball screens, which open up the basket for other role players. As the game slows and defenders double-team, Gobert gets chances to create his shots. This is because he often struggles. The Mavericks were successful in making him irrelevant in the last playoff series. Both players have had their playoff struggles, but this season they could change it.
Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert have faced playoff challenges recently. Still, they deserve recognition for turning their teams around. Rudy helped make the Timberwolves one of the top teams last season. He led the team on the defensive end, which was key in their win against Denver. Along with Randle, who was able to make New York into a winning team and become the face of New York. Both are key to avoiding making the play-in tournament and having a favorable playoff matchup. Randle and Gobert are exceptional regular-season players. They will be a tough matchup for opposing teams.
