Steven Adams to Houston!
The Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies have made a trade for their future. Memphis has sent 30-year-old Steven Adams to the Rockets. In exchange, they received Victor Oladipo and three second-round picks. This trade won't mean anything this season, but it could pay off next season. The Rockets have gotten what they needed from this trade, and the same goes for Memphis.
The Rockets have finally gotten what they were missing. The franchise was missing a backup big that could play the non-Sengün minutes. It also needed a veteran figure for the young team. Though the big man has missed the season due to a knee injury, He is the answer for Houston next season. Ime Udoka has done a great job of establishing a culture in Houston. And Alperen Şengün has made jumps to being an All-Star level player. Also, Adams could help in developing Jabari Smith Jr., who is an up-and-coming big man in the league. The Rockets have made this trade with the right intentions.
The Memphis Grizzlies have now cleared their salary for future moves. These could happen at this deadline or in the offseason. Memphis has three second-round picks. They can trade them for a player. And Victor Oladipo is soon out of the league. The franchise has played its hand well many times and could continue to do so. They are regrouping as Ja has missed a large part of the season along with Marcus Smart. The team has established their core three and is most likely drafting high in the draft. The Grizzlies have assets to play with and could add players along with their stars.
This trade is a win for both franchises. We won't feel the effect of this trade right now. But once next season starts and Adams plays, we'll see an improved Rockets team. Memphis could make moves that could better their team next season. Ja Morant will come back healthy and with a lot to prove. I view this trade as a win-win for both organizations.
