San Antonio Spurs Locker Room Leaders!

The Spurs signed two veterans last off-season to add character to the locker room. Hall of Fame Chris Paul and champion Harrison Barnes are perfect, unselfish players. They have helped the younger players develop. Leaving a lasting impact that will help shape these young stars.

The San Antonio Spurs had an underrated off-season. They surrounded their new superstar with two veterans: Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul. Barnes has the reputation of being well liked and respected in the locker room. Harrison Barnes, who won a championship in 2015, was a key role player. Then signing with Dallas, where Barnes was the leader of a young Luka Doncic. Then, he found himself playing for the Sacramento Kings. He was part of their 2023 run, playing with Domantas Sabonis and De'Aaron Fox. Harrison has been a respected veteran on every team he has been in. The same goes for Chris Paul, who has been able to leave an impact everywhere he went.

After 2019, it seemed like Chris Paul had washed out and was close to calling it a career. Daryl Morey decided to trade the veteran point guard. He helped the Rockets reach the 2018 Western Conference Finals. Then, they traded him to a team that was starting a rebuild. It was a match made in heaven, which few expected. Chris Paul was the perfect veteran for young Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lu Dort. That year, OKC was one of the most fun teams. People recognized SGA's greatness as he played well off a Hall of Fame point guard. After that one season in OKC, CP3 found himself a new team in Phoenix. In his first season there, he was a key player in helping them make the Finals. It was the first time in Devin Booker's career that he saw success. Young talent like Cam Johnson, DeAndre Ayton, and Mikal Bridges were able to show out. In 2023, Chris joined the Golden State Warriors, replacing Jordan Poole. He now played with his former rivals. The season did not end pretty, and it seemed like Paul was done. This season, he has once again shown to be one of the best floor generals. After both veterans had a lot of success through out their careers they are now leading a team full of young talent.

Chris Paul is far from his All-Star form, but in year 20 he has still been able to be the most impactful player on the court. The way he controls the offense allows him to get the ball to a young Castle, Vessell, and Wemby. He is a respected player who demands the respect of everyone on the court. A true student of the game who knows all the loopholes in the rule book. The same goes for Harrison Barnes. He's an unselfish player. He can play off-ball and defend well. Tonight in Paris, the veteran scored 20 points on 9-10 shooting and seven rebounds. Both veterans can make an impact that is long-lasting in San Antonio. Chris and Harrison can instill a leadership ability. They can also teach how to play for each other. This is important for a future championship team.

The San Antonio Spurs are far from a championship team, but they have made the right moves so far. Chris Paul's signing was one of the most underrated moves last off-season, as he had a down season in Golden State. Harrison Barnes, who missed the playoffs with the Kings, was traded to the Alamo. Now, both guys have to coach the young team on the court and in the locker room. Given their unselfishness and basketball knowledge, they could be head coaches one day. Or help the Spurs reach the play-in spot. The inexperienced players could then gain some experience. These two could leave a long-lasting impact in the locker room as the Spurs continue to develop.
