Russell Westbrook's Revival!

Russell Westbrook has been incredible for the Denver Nuggets. Taking on every role that needs to be filled for the injury-riddled organization.

Against the Memphis Grizzlies tonight, Nikola Jokic was out due to personal reasons. It looked like Denver would struggle against the Memphis Grizzlies. But one man shined bright and took over for the Nuggets: Russell Westbrook. He made history with his 200th triple-double tonight. He ran the offense, opening the floor for Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. This ensured a smooth flow to the game. Russ's defense against Jaren Jackson Jr. in the post was a sight to see too. So far into the season, the Denver Nuggets seem to be the right home for the former MVP.

Since 2019, Russell Westbrook has found himself becoming a journeyman. The former MVP struggled to find a role in Washington, Houston, and Los Angeles. Fans were clowning him. In 2024, media members questioned if Russ still belongs in the NBA. Despite that, Nikola Jokic and DeAndre Jordan wanted the former star in Denver. So far, Russ has done an incredible job filling in the hole that Bruce Brown left. Westbrook has become a great spark plug for the Nuggets. Early on, the team was struggling, but Westbrook is one of the high points of the year so far. And when Jamal Murray was out, Russell was able to take on the offensive responsibilities.

When Jamal Murray was dealing with early-on injuries, Russell was able to step up big. He took on more of a scoring load, averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Westbrook was a huge spark plug for the team. The Denver fanbase even went on to debate if the team should start Russell Westbrook or Jamal Murray. Even tonight, with Jokic being out, Russ was able to control the pace of the offense. Role players like Peyton Watson were able to shine well. Along with the core three players of Braun, MPJ, and Murray. He is one of the best rebounding guards. He ensured everyone got their points and pushed the ball faster. Westbrook has his bad habits, but he has been ideal for this team. They were looking for a spark plug, and Russ has been able to become that.

Westbrook has taken up every role this year. When Murray was out, he was able to become a starter; when the team needed him to come off the bench, he was incredible. Russ has done a great job of getting young guys like Peyton Watson involved in the offense. Westbrook has been incredible as an off-the-ball player and as a bench playmaker. Even on defense, he has been great for Denver. His defense has been a huge plus for the team. Westbrook's teammates love playing with him, as he knows how to get everyone involved. The only knock critics have is that he shoots a lot. This is an honest criticism, but saying that he is a negative on the team is wack. It ignores his ability to fill in missing roles. He plays great off Jokic. He excels at off-ball offense, rebounding, and playmaking. Russell Westbrook has been a great breath of fresh air for the Denver Nuggets.
