Ricky Rubio Retirement

Ricky Rubio Retirement

Ricky Rubio has finally retired after playing for 12 long years. He was drafted before MVP and Champion Steph Curry. There is no denying that he made his own career. Known for his passes, which are beautiful like the sunset, The Spaniard was the perfect veteran. Rubio raised the play for young stars everywhere he went.

In his first run with the Timberwolves, he was part of the transition. Rubio was the young player that the franchise kept when it moved away from Kevin Love to Karl Anthony Towns. He played there for six years, being the perfect point guard who got the ball to his young star hands. Then, in 2017, Rubio found himself in Utah. He came in when there was a transition from the Gordon Hayward era to the Donovan Mitchell era. He and Donovan Mitchell were like peanut butter and jelly. The chemistry was great between both, and for two years, they were able to make a play-off run.

Ricky Rubio then signed with the Phoenix Suns, where he was able to change the culture. With the new head coach, Monty Williams, it made perfect sense for them to get a passing point guard. Rubio was perfect for the young Devin Booker, as he was able to set him up for shots. And he was able to make plays for DeAndre Ayton, which made them a happy camper. The culture of losing was changing as the Suns went undefeated in the bubble. Ending the season as the ninth seed. If it wasn't for Rubio, then Chris Paul would have never ended up in a Suns uniform.

Then they traded Rubio back to where it all started. He was now a veteran who is there to guide rookie Anthony Edwards. Though Ant only played one season with Rubio, he said, "Is the best leader he's been around" Rubio then heads to Cleveland, where he deals with the hardships of a torn ACL.

Rubio seemed like he couldn't get over his mental issue. He took a pause from playing basketball, and today he announced his retirement. Players like Donovan Mitchell said, "I’m just happy that he finally has time to feel like he can breathe. He can go pick up his son from school and be with his family in Spain." LeBron James commented, "But I respect Ricky. Congrats on a hell of a career." Also, his former teammate Devin Booker said, "I'm going to miss him." Though Ricky didn't make an All-NBA team or an All-Star team, he has been able to carve up a place in the NBA.

Ricky Rubio has had one hell of a career in the NBA. He is a legend in his country, Spain, where he won the FIBA Basketball World Cup and had a long career in the NBA. He is one of the greatest Euro players in the sport. He is an inspiration for overseas basketball players who would love to play in the NBA.
