Injury has plagued Joel Embiid's entire career. Which has hindered his playoff performances. That has brought him the reputation of being a choker and becoming a meme around the league. Embiid has found himself getting the Chris Paul treatment. Last season, Embiid was out for close to 30 games. Which forced the Sixers to compete for the play-in games. Joel elevates the team to another level. He led that team to a 30-8 record until he fell. Showing that they are contenders when healthy, but you can't always bank on that. So, the Sixers have to bring another star onto their roster.
Paul George's signing to the Sixers is a match made in heaven. He is everything that Philly needs. A player who can step up as the first option when Embiid is out of action. Paul can find his spot on the court. He does not need the ball to create his shot. Maxey and Embiid pick and roll could generate a lot of excitement and opportunities. PG can create his shot too. Which creates opportunities for other players. Along with his defense, that can benefit the team.
With how stacked the wing spots are, it is more than ideal to have George. He can guard Jayson Tatum or Giannis Antetokounmpo night in and night out, which is important. Paul George and Kelly Oubre together on the defensive end will be a nightmare. The amount of switching they could do will give the opposing players a hard time. And having Embiid in the middle is terrifying. The Sixers adding Paul George to the team is scary on both sides of the court, but he has problems closing the game out.
Throughout Paul George's career, he has had a problem closing out series. He earned himself the nickname "Wayoff P." He was the ultimate meme on NBA Twitter. He blew a 3-1 lead vs. the Nuggets, losing to Damian Lillard's buzzer-beater. And this past season, he lost to the emerging Dallas Mavericks. Throughout his career, Paul has shown struggles in closing out the series. Now, PG will not have the pressure to close. Tyrese Maxey will now be the closer that the Sixers need for the organization.
Tyrese Maxey is the most ideal finisher on the team. He was incredible last season when Joel Embiid fell. Filling the void that the MVP left behind. Making the jump to become the most improved player in the league. The chemistry between him and Embiid was incredible. The amount of offense they generate is incredible. With Paul George and Joel Embiid struggling, Maxey will take over at the end. The Sixer’s core three looks scary next season.
Paul George is the new X Factor to get the Sixers to get their long-awaited title. Moving on from stars like Ben Simmons and James Harden to Paul George. It is Daryl Morey's last attempt at giving their aging and injured MVP a roster to compete. Paul George now has less priority on offense and focuses more on the defensive end. He could find himself playing off of the two stars. Depending on health, Paul George and the Sixers could end up winning the title this year.
