Norman Powell: The Unexpected Hero!
Norman Powell has been one of the most impressive players this year. Powell has been the unexpected second option for the Clippers.
Before the season started, we discovered that Kawhi Leonard would be out for some time. His problem with his lower body has restricted his availability since 2018. Fans are concerned because the Clippers lost Paul George in the off-season. On paper, the LA Clippers have elite role players like Norman Powell, Amir Coffey, and Derrick Jones Jr. on the team. But, with the West so stacked, the media and fans discounted the Clippers' playoff hopes. With 23 games in, one role player has taken on the second option. Norman Powell has become the star that LA needed to take over alongside James Harden.
Norman Powell has been a winning player throughout his career. He was a key contributor off the bench for the stacked Toronto Raptors. He has been an ideal energy guy who can bring scoring off the bench. Powell's ability to play off the ball and find his spots is impressive. He runs around screens to get open and cut to the basket. And Powell is a great spot-up three-point shooter. Norman is also good at being an on-ball player. He can create his shot and finish around the basket. His talented offensive ability has opened up his shots. Along with having an elite playmaker like James Harden, who can find him in his spots. It made sense why before the season he had a shit ton of confidence.
With Paul George gone this off-season, fans wondered if the Clippers could compete. The Clippers, after getting Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, were underwhelming. Neither could stay healthy. With the new stadium and losing a big star, it seemed like a failed investment. When the media asked Norman Powell about Paul George's exit, he said, "It's a case of addition by subtraction." He added, "His absence gives others a chance to show what they can do." With this confidence, Norman has been backing it up. Averaging 24 points per game and 50% in both shooting. Powell has dominated the regular season so far. Leading the Clippers to important wins.
Norman Powell has been the unexpected hero for the Clippers. He could make a case for becoming an All-Star this year. He has made a 10-point jump so far this season. With a bigger role this year, he has been able to become a second option for LA. He is even becoming a better player than Paul George this season. The Clippers won the off-season by letting their aging star leave. Now, they can let Powell dominate. Norman Powell is the star that LA needed, and if he and Harden stay healthy, they could be contenders in the West.
