DFS to Lakers and D Lo is Back to Nets!
One of the major trade so far was between the Nets and Lakers. Dorian Finney Smith has found a new home in LA and D'Angelo Russell is back to Brooklyn!
Nothing is more hyped about than the Lakers making a trade. At 40, LeBron still plays like a top 15 player. Anthony Davis is having an All-NBA season. And Austin Reeves has been playing like the third option that every Lakers fan hoped for. But, despite their best efforts, they looked like a mediocre team that can't beat the top teams. Rob Pelinka pulled out his phone. He made some moves to add a wing defender, Dorian Finney-Smith. In exchange, they sent out D'Angelo Russell. Adding a player who can defend the wing and shoot some threes is a huge win for LA. And Brooklyn got some second-round picks plus a veteran player who was loved by the fans.
Dorian Finney-Smith has been a solid role player throughout his career. The Lakers were desperate for a wing player, and they made the most out of their limited roster. Making a move for a player who can hit threes, cut to the basket, and defend the opposing wing. He was key in the Mavericks' 2022 run to the Western Conference Finals. This made him a key player in the Kyrie Irving trade. Now, with the Lakers, he will be one of the main wing defenders along with Rui Hachimura. If DFS pans out to be a good fit for the Lakers, he will be important against the likes of Kevin Durant and Luka Doncic. This is an ideal deal for the Lakers, but we have to wait for the payoff.
Life is funny. D'Angelo Russell started his career in Los Angeles, but he was then traded to Brooklyn. This is the city that made him a star. He led the Nets to the playoffs as the sixth seed, challenging the 76ers. He earned his first and only All-Star. He helped the Nets build a culture that led to a move for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Now, it has come back full circle as the Nets are looking to establish a new culture. The veteran guard could help them establish a culture, but it is yet to be seen whether he will stay with the Nets. The prime player could look to buy out. Trying out the free agency market and signing onto a team that could use his resources. That is something that we have to see. The three second-round picks are very useful. They could be gems that help the rebuild. The Brooklyn Nets want to establish a new culture this year.
Both teams head in opposite directions. The Lakers want to win another title with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The Nets are rebuilding. So, Brooklyn would trade its key players for assets. And, for an expiring deal like D'Angelo Russell. That made sense. Both players earn respect; one is a great 3&D player, and the other is a fan favorite. This trade was well needed for both organizations. We just have to wait for it to pan out.
