Devin Vassell Makes A Jump?
Devin Vassell Makes a Jump?
The San Antonio Spurs are one of the most exciting young teams in the league. One of the best, if not the best, young prospects got being drafted. Victor Wembanyama might be a top-20 player in the league and could make his first NBA All-Star team this year. A monster on both ends of the court, almost winning Defensive Player of the Year last season. He will be one of the most talked-about players next season. But Devin Vassell is slipping out of the discussion.
The San Antonio Spurs did not have good players last year. Jeremy Sochan did not succeed as a playmaker, as hoped. Victor's touches suffered, and Devin's growth was even more affected. Vassell is a good young player. The Spurs gave him a five-year, $146 million extension last off-season. San Antonio, with that big of an investment, needed to bring in guys who can help. Which is why this off-season they went shopping. San Antonio acquired a veteran point guard, Chris Paul, a future Hall of Famer. The Spurs also got a former champion, Harrison Barnes.
Chris Paul can be a huge help to this young squad. With his timeless playmaking skills. The idea of him setting up Wemby in the post, the 3s, and Lobs is crazy to think about. It will be like having Blake Griffin on steroids. That is all anybody is talking about. But nobody is talking about the impact he could have on Devin Vessell. Who can create his shot and play off the ball with talent? He has also been a solid defender, which is a plus. With CP3 being the main showrunner in San Antonio, you can see Devin showing his talent. He is great at finishing around the basket. He could make some serious strides for the Spurs. And having good locker room guys like Harrison Barnes helps a lot.
Harrison Barnes is not a player expected to make a huge difference on the court. He is an aging player who has experience on great Warriors teams that won a championship in 2015. He will be a perfect voice for Devin Vassell and Victor Wembanyama. It will also suit young guys like Keldon Johnson and Jeremy Sochan. Stephon Castle is a rookie point guard who can learn from Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes. Barnes can help keep the offense organized. This can help Devin Vassell become the Spurs' hoped-for second option this season.
The Spurs are an organization with a bright future. Victor Wembanyama looks like a future MVP. A player, if healthy, could be in the debate for the greatest of all time. Joining the conversation with Michael Jordan and LeBron James. The idea of him playing alongside Chris Paul sounds incredible. But nobody is talking about how much this could help Vassell. Who has been a key in the rebuild? He now has a point guard who can help improve his game. Along with having a locker room leader that the Spurs need. Last year, the Spurs lacked organized offense. But with Chris Paul signed, the players can now find their spots. It won't be a shock to the world if Devin Vassell averages around 23 points per game. It will be exciting what the 23-year-old can do this upcoming season.
