Desmond Bane is a Magic!
The NBA off-season has kicked off. The Orlando Magic traded Desmond Bane. The deal includes four first-round picks. Orlando shocked the NBA by giving up a significant amount of assets for role players which shows the norm of this off-season.
The Orlando Magic have started the off-season with a bang. After a tough season, in which they lost to the Boston Celtics in five games, they sought to improve their roster. Orlando is desperate to add a third scoring option. This player should handle the ball and ease the pressure on Paolo Banchero. Along with being a decent playmaker, averaging five assists a game last season is a big help for the team. Orlando struggled as a three-point shooting team. Desmond, who shot 39 percent from beyond the arc, can potentially change that. This move is great for the Magic organization, even with all the criticism about what they gave up.
As the off-season nears, trade talks have begun. This comes after Kevin Durant expressed his desire to leave the Phoenix Suns. Leading into the conversation about what his value is in the open market in 2025. Teams trade players like Desmond Bane, who have done less, for four first-round picks and a swap. It only makes sense that the Suns would look for more out of a future Hall of Famer, Kevin Durant, in the trade market. According to ESPN, "In a summer in which there is basically no cap space for teams -- the rebuilding Brooklyn Nets, per ESPN's Bobby Marks, are the only team projected to have meaningful space with which to work. With a limited free agent class on top of it, several sources said the busiest day of the offseason is going to be June 25, the first round of the draft." The value of draft picks will increase as teams attempt to avoid the second cap apron. Some players might be traded for a lot because the market is low. Right now, fans are discussing what they gave up, but that talk could change next season.
For the past five years, to start the 2020s, the NBA has seen five different champions. Every year, some teams make surprising moves to become title contenders. Injuries and teams changing due to cap space can lead to mixed results. Some teams improve, while others decline. With that, the young Orlando Magic could be one of those teams on the rise with this Desmond Bane trade. With Jayson Tatum having an Achilles injury that could take him out of action for the whole season. It will be interesting to see if Cleveland can continue their success from this season into next. The New York Knicks and the Bucks are facing uncertainty. Giannis's future is unclear, and the Knicks want to build a new culture with a new head coach. And the off-season will determine how the Pistons will be if they can fix the holes needed to make a jump next season. The Orlando Magic might surprise everyone next season. They could become a top three team in the East. It all depends on how their rivals perform.
The next season of NBA basketball is crucial for the Orlando Magic. Franz Wagner is a big question mark for next season. His three-point shot hasn’t developed much. Last off-season, Wagner proved he is a key player for Orlando. They believe in his long-term potential. Now, he needs to improve his three-point shooting. He has declined behind the arc since coming to the league. If he doesn't improve, Orlando might have to trade him. His playing style clashes with Paolo Banchero's. Jalen Suggs is healthy for next season, and fans hope his playmaking skills improve. Anthony Black played more minutes last season due to his defense. The goal is for him to improve his playmaking skills. The Desmond Bane trade boosts both scoring and playmaking. The Magic needed this improvement last season. This trade has gotten a lot of overreaction, but it could pay off big if everything meshes well together.
