DeMar DeRozan Makes the Kings Contenders?
The Sacramento Kings were a disappointment last season. In which they lost the play-ins in a disappointing fashion against the Pelicans. Domantas Sabonis continues to be one of the best big men in the league. De'Aaron Fox is one of the most underrated guards in the league. But the loss of Malik Monk hurt their playoff ambitions. It was a far cry from their previous season, where they were a top-5 seed. So when the off-season rolled around, many people asked a lot of questions. How will the Kings improve their roster? And will they go to a total rebuild?
The Kings had to keep their team intact. Malik Monk had one of the best sixth man in the league. And he was a free agent this off-season. Which had fans worried. If they lost Monk, then they would not be contenders or even playoff teams. Along with Mike Brown, who has been incredible since coming to Sacramento. Building a culture that he brought from the Warriors to the team. Making it a fun offensive team in the league. Giving them a real direction for this squad. But keeping these two was not enough. They needed to bring in another star, and who is better than DeMar DeRozan?
DeMar DeRozan is their biggest signing. And man, they hit a home run! DeMar, even though he is shit in the post-season, is one of the best regular-season players in the league. His ability to make the injury-plagued Chicago Bulls a play-in team was awesome! Demar is a talented at creating shots. He is one of the best mid-range shooters in the league. And can play off of Sabonis and Fox. He suits this squad exactly. As a 2nd or 3rd option on the team on any given night. With the core 3's firepower, adding DeMar makes them a high-scoring team next season.
The Kings are a great starting five. Sabonis is the key big man who can score and pass. De'Aaron Fox is a fast guard who can go to the basket. Malik Monk is one of the best spark plugs in the league. He can control the offense off the bench. They expect Keegan Murray to reach the level of OG Anunoby. To become a defensive anchor on a team with a bunch of offensive firepower. The Kings look like an elite team with great personnel, but the question comes is: will they compete for a title?
With the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves becoming better. With the Nuggets and Clippers regressing this offseason, the Kings can become a top 3 team in the West. The floor is open for the Kings to make a run. With the firepower that they have on offense with Sabonis, Monk, DeRozan, and Fox. It is hard to see them not being one of the best offensive teams in the league. But they will give up a lot of points on defense with a lack of defenders. And with DeRozan and Sabonis shrinking in the playoffs, it makes it hard for the Kings to go past the first round. But, in the regular season, they are All-NBA players. Mike Brown is a great defensive mind too. DeMar DeRozan makes the Kings a good regular-season team like he did in with the Raptors, Spurs, and Bulls. But with the track record of DeRozan and Sabonis, it is hard to imagine anything post season success.
