Chicago Bulls Remains Mid?

The Chicago Bulls are going to remain mediocre this year. Josh Giddey is on a good contract but will not raise the play enough to make a deep run. The extension of Billy Donovan shows that the Bulls are fine just being there instead of starting over. And Isaac Okoro will be a role player who can get the ball more and earn more minutes.

The Chicago Bulls had a busy offseason ahead. Josh Giddey, whom they traded for last season, is looking for a big payday. After a strong finish, talk shifted to Josh Giddey's desired salary. He wanted up to $30 million per year. Yet, the Bulls managed to bring it down to $25 million.Chicago was able to save some money, and Josh Giddey was able to get the payday he wanted. After trading Alex Caruso, the Thunder reached the finals. People wondered how much the Australian player would earn. The restricted free agent market has been tough. Many players, like Kuminga, can't agree on a number. Cam Thomas also faced issues; he received a low offer. So the fact the Bulls were able to get a deal done is good long-term for both parties. The Chicago Bulls’ free agency has been forgettable. They seem too good for a high draft pick but too bad to make the playoffs. The Bulls are taking a strange path this season. They extended Billy Donovan's contract and traded for Isaac Okoro.

Josh Giddey is a player who is very limited. Giddey is not a good scorer, nor can he defend, which is a problem in the modern NBA. It is hard to win with a point guard who can't knock down shots. Josh's game has one plus: he’s a good passer. He can pass well in the open court. Plus, he’s a tall guard who creates fast break chances. Josh coming into year 4 is what he is; Giddey is a top 20 point guard and had a great run at the end of the season. It was expected that he would get paid, as he is one of the better players in Chicago. Giddey can use his strength since Nikola Vucevic and Coby White score better. The Australian player will improve the Bulls, but he can't lead the team to wins with Issac Okoro.

The front office decided to part ways with Lonzo Ball. He had a solid comeback year after two injury-filled seasons, but Chicago was not able to get assets. The same thing occurred again, as it seems that Chicago is allergic to getting draft picks. Isaac Okoro is a decent player but had a bad postseason. When he had the chance to step up after DeAndre Hunter fell due to injuries. Issac is now looking at the Bulls team that can offer him more minutes and shooting opportunities. He is a good off-ball player playing next to Josh Giddey and Coby White. He could fit great next to those two guards. Though Isaac is a proven role player, he is not a guy who can win you a lot of games. The Bulls are insistent on being mid by resigning Billy Donovan.

2025 Basketball Hall of Famer Billy Donovan got a new contract this off-season. Billy Donovan has been a coach who has been able to lay out the play of the team he coaches. He was the man running the show behind Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant in 2016. And was able to coach mediocre Russell Westbrook and Paul George teams. The first year of the Bulls, when they were looking to compete, Donovan was perfect for that. But now I don't see a purpose for Billy on this team. He is not known for developing young players and always looks to compete. It seems that AK and the Chicago Bulls organization do not look to get a high draft pick this year. Instead, another year of being a play-in team. Billy Donovan is a good enough coach to get them the 10th seed, but nothing special beside that. The Chicago Bulls continue to remain mediocre.

The Chicago Bulls are a team that seems content to remain mediocre. It makes sense for profit. The Bulls are one of the highest-selling teams for tickets, and they have talented players. As long as Jerry Reinsdorf makes his money, he does not care if the Bulls reach back to their 90s golden era. The signing of Josh Giddey will keep the Bulls good enough to compete for a bottom playoff seed. And Isaac Okoro will be a good rotational player who can hit some threes. Billy Donovan is a coach who doesn't believe in developing young talent. He will be able to get the best out of his veteran players. It is another whatever season for the Chicago Bulls this 2025-26 season.
