Chauncey Billups is in the Hall of Fame!
The major news that came out last week is that Chauncey Billups is finally a Hall of Famer. One of the most underrated point guards of the 2000s. A guard who was able to elevate his team anywhere he went. From being the third pick in the 1997 draft to then being a journeyman, circumstances changed. Chauncey went to a contender, which was the Detroit Pistons. A legendary franchise that won back-to-back championships a decade ago. In which he saw success. After winning the Finals MVP, the Pistons won their third NBA title. Along with being a 5-time All-Star and All-NBA Second Defensive Team, Chauncey led the Pistons. They made two NBA Finals trips and six Eastern Conference Finals trips. A true winner and a reliable player. Billups was not only able to make an impact in Detroit; he also made an impact on a young Carmelo Anthony.
In 2008, the Nuggets made a bold move. They got Chauncey Billups by trading fan favorite Allen Iverson. Melo saw the most success of his career as he led Denver to the second seed. With a record of 54 wins and 28 losses. He turned the franchise around as he led them to success. They played smarter basketball, and Billups made his impact known. Unfortunately, the point guard position was stacked in the 2000s. This has caused an underrated status for Chauncey. A true leader on the court. Every team he has been on has been successful.
This is a well-deserved selection in the Hall of Fame. Chauncey took the Pistons to the highest levels they had ever been to. He won the final MVP. He led the Pistons to two finals and six conference finals. Along with taking the Nuggets to the conference finals, Billups is now the coach of the Portland Trailblazers. He is looking to build up a new culture in the in the post-Damian Lillard era and make them a playoff team again. He has finally gotten his Hall of Fame jacket. It is long overdue, but it is awesome to see!
