The Cavs Won the Off-Season.
The media were pushing for Donovan Mitchell to leave Cleveland. For some reason, people like Stephen A. Smith and ESPN dislike that a superstar can love a small market. Rather, they would love to see him on teams that he would not fit in or get the same opportunities. Cleveland has one of the best fan bases in the league. They are loud and very supportive of their organization. It might be because of the petty bullshit that Dan Gilbert did when LeBron left, which is why they do not like Cleveland. Dan and LeBron were able to fix their issues, but still, ESPN viewed Cleveland as a bad franchise. Despite it being the opposite. As they made four straight finals. So, it was awesome to see Mitchell decide that he wants to remain a Cav. It is a huge win for Cleveland. Another win in signing Kenny Atkinson as their head coach.
Kenny Atkinson was great at rebuilding the Brooklyn Nets. After the blunder that was Billy King's horrible run as the general manager. He was able to build the Nets up with no lottery picks. In 2019, they were one of the most exciting teams in the league. With D'Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie on fire, the bench was dancing. It was a shock when the team fired him after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving joined. Kenny then joined the Warriors, where he won a title as an assistant coach. This off-season, JB Bickerstaff was fired. It opened the door for the Cavs to sign Kenny Atkinson.
It was clear that Donovan Mitchell wanted Kenny Atkinson, and it made so much sense. A coach who has a great offensive mind. Now, he must fix Cleveland's struggling offense under Bickerstaff. He brought a defensive identity to Cleveland, but not an offensive one. The hope is that Kenny will be able to elevate the play of Evan Mobley, who hasn't improved offensively. As a defender, he earned himself an extension, but the hope is that under Kenny, Mobley will make a jump on the offensive end. Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert he is familiar with since his time in Brooklyn. It will be interesting to see how he will play the front court. Will Atkinson be able to solve the problem of lack of spacing? Along with how he views the backcourt of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland.

The Cavs are a team with depth. Max Strus is a solid role player and veteran who can defend and hit shots. Caris LeVert is a talented sixth man, and Jarrett Allen is a good rim protector. Dean Wade was a huge help off the bench. So was Craig Porter, who excelled during the Cavs' injury woes last season. Sam Merrill was good at stepping up as a backup guard. And Niang is a good three-point shooter. The Cavs have surrounded Donovan Mitchell with good talent around. Being a deep team and roster. Which made sense for Spida to resign.
Donovan Mitchell is a top-3 shooting guard. He is incredible to watch. The way the Spida can lead them to wins with ease. A true all-NBA player can attack the basket, create his shot, and is a solid three-point shooter. He can take over the big moments when needed. A true elevator on the floor. And the 150 million dollar extension makes perfect sense. It brings flexibility to both organizations. Cleveland has a few more years with Mitchell to improve their roster. If it doesn't work out, they can part ways sooner. Spida hopes the Cavs will improve their roster and become a top team in the East. That's a question in itself.
There is no doubt that Donovan Mitchell and now head coach Kenny Atkinson can lead this team to a top-three seed. It is not far-fetched to think that they could be one of the best regular-season teams. But the question is, can they beat the Sixers, Knicks, or Celtics? Who is deep in every position with more playoff-ready players? The Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers have hungry young players who want to improve. Or the Bucks can bounce back and become a top team. The Cavs better hope that the roster they have can make improvements. Donovan Mitchell will always remain a top player. An All-NBA player who can drop 30 plus on any night. But Darius Garland must return to his 2021 All-Star form. Also, Evan Mobley needs to improve his offense. If those two do make jumps, then it could be a tough postseason for Cleveland. Where it could once again end in disappointment. But as of right now, the Cavs have won their off-season by keeping their stars and signing a good coach.
