We didn't know that there were problems in the background due to the success we were seeing at face value. Then news came out that the Bucks are looking into hiring longtime champion coach Doc Rivers. Who has experience coaching championship teams. Jon Horst is a talented general manager who knows how to make his franchise stars happy. He went out and got the best coach available. The Bucks are thinking about the playoffs rather than regular-season games. The Bucks hope to win their third title. They also want to further establish Giannis Antetokounmpo's legacy. This might be the last head coaching job Doc Rivers ever gets. There is no doubt that Doc is a Hall of Famer due to his coaching, but god damn has he clocked through out his career. He has lucked into coaching many superstars in his career. He then coached Tracy McGrady in Orlando from 1999 to 2003. Then Doc coached the Celtics during the title run in 2008 with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Peirce. In the 2010s, Doc got the job of coaching Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. Yet, his team fell short of making a Western Conference appearance. In 2019, Rivers gained new talent. Fresh out of the championship, he acquired Kawhi Lenard and MVP contender Paul George. After coming up short with LA, he found a coaching deal with Philadelphia 76ers MVP Joel Embiid. After the Harden trade, he got to coach another MVP. Now, Doc is getting the chance to coach two Hall of Fame players. He will be coaching Damien Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He is once again getting a talented roster and can't afford to underachieve. Adrian Griffin ruined the locker room culture, and he has to fix it.
Adrian Griffin has lost the locker room. The only reason the Bucks have a good record this year is because of the talent on the roster. The Bucks defense stinks, which is a huge red flag for a contending team. There was also a report of Giannis disliking the way Griffin coached. Though the move caught Giannis by surprise, This might be a way for him to clean his own hands. Adrian Griffin might not have been the answer after firing Mike Budenholzer. But the Bucks hope that Doc is. By playoff time, we are all hopeful that he establishes a defensive identity.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fired David Blatt and promoted Ty Lue to head coach. We could see the same thing for the Bucks and Doc Rivers. Giannis has to continue proving that he is one of the greatest players ever. Damian Lillard wants to win his first championship. Doc Rivers needs to prove he is a good coach. There is pressure on everyone in the Bucks to once again prove themselves like they did in 2021. The Celtics and 76ers are on the horizon, trying to win their titles. There is pressure on Milwaukee to overcome their woes and make a run. This hiring could either be the best decision the franchise made or the worst, as the Bucks future hangs on it.
